Frequently asked questions

What to know before your first ride with Maprider.

Getting started

What is Maprider?

Maprider is a motorcycle navigation app with offline maps, turn-by-turn directions and GPX support. Plan routes and multi-day trips on the web, sync them to your phone, and ride with your maps and routes ready to go.

Maprider is still new and under development, so you may encounter bugs. If you find one, please let us know at [email protected] and help us make Maprider better.

Is Maprider free?

Maprider is currently free to use. A standard account can store up to 20 routes and 3 trips, with up to 10 days per trip.

Which phones does Maprider support?

The Android app supports Android 10 or later on phones with a 64-bit ARM processor. You can plan routes in a web browser on your computer. The iPhone app is in development; we do not have a release date to announce yet.

Planning and riding

Does motorcycle navigation work without internet?

Yes, on Android. Download the country packages for your ride before you leave. With the required maps downloaded, maps, route calculation, address search, turn-by-turn navigation and automatic rerouting run on your phone without a mobile connection. Make sure your routes are downloaded to the phone before going offline.

What do I still need an internet connection for?

You need internet to create or sign in to your account, download or update country packages, and sync routes and trips between devices. The web route planner also needs a connection. Prepare your downloads and sync while online, then use the Android app for offline navigation.

Which countries have offline maps?

Maprider has map packages for countries across Europe, one package per country. After you sign in to the Android app, Manage Maps shows the countries currently available. If your route crosses a border, download the packages for every country you plan to ride through before leaving.

Can I import GPX files from another route planner?

Yes. Import a GPX file in the web route planner or Android app, view its tracks on the map, and use it for your ride. You can also export routes as GPX. GPX files can contain different combinations of tracks, routes and waypoints, so check the imported route on the map before setting off.

Can I choose roads suited to my motorcycle?

In the web route planner, you can adjust preferences for unpaved roads, motorways, tolls and ferries, and set a top speed. In the Android app, you can choose the Fastest, Shortest or Offroad profile and avoid motorways, tolls or ferries. These preferences help shape your route, but do not guarantee road access or surface conditions. Always follow local signs and assess the road ahead.

How do speed camera alerts work?

On Android, you can enable speed camera alerts in Sounds & alerts. During navigation, Maprider shows a warning and can play a sound when you approach a known camera on your route. It uses camera data from downloaded map packages, so it works offline. Some countries are excluded; the app lists them when you enable the feature. You are responsible for following the law where you ride, so turn alerts off before you enter a country that forbids them. Camera data comes from OpenStreetMap and may be incomplete or out of date. Older map packages may need an update to include camera data.

How do routes get from the website to my phone?

Save your route on the website, then sign in to the Android app with the same account and sync while you have an internet connection. Standalone routes download to your phone when they sync. For a trip, open the trip and choose Download all routes. Also download the country packages you need. You can then navigate offline.

Your data and support

What data does Maprider collect?

Maprider stores your account details and the routes, GPX files and trips you save. The Android app uses your location for navigation and does not send us a location history. When you ask for online routing, the app sends us the route points to calculate the route. We collect error reports, service logs and website visit statistics. Optional web usage analytics requires your consent. See the Privacy Policy for details and retention periods.

How do I delete my account and data?

Open Profile in the web or Android app, choose Delete account, enter your password and confirm. Deletion is permanent, and trips you own are deleted for their members too. Our account deletion page explains what is removed, retention periods and how to request deletion if you cannot sign in.
